EURORDIS announced that the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Catalina Devandas Aguilar, made references to the community of rare diseases in her Report to the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations which started on the 18th of September 2018.
The UN Special Rapporteur on disabilities is mandated by the UN to report back to Member States and make recommendations to recognize, promote, implement and monitor the rights of persons with disabilities from a human rights-based approach, in line with the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
Every year she reports both to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and to the UN General Assembly (UNGA). This year's report to the UNGA focused on 'the rights of persons with disabilities to the highest attainable standard of health.
